Winners lane

Winners lane in padel is a tournament that has become increasingly large - as it offers variations of teammates and opponents. The best players during the tournament remain on the Winners lane. It is a variant of the Padel americano and mexicano tournament format where chance determines which teammates you start with and who you are up against, but also which court you will play on.

Rules for Winners lane

Rules for winning lane in padel differ somewhat in terms of scoring, but otherwise normal padel rules apply.

  • Before the first match there will be an automatic pairing of teams, opponents and which court the teams will start playing on.
  • The winning team moves up a lane and changes teammates. The losing team moves down one lane and they also switch teammates.
  • If you're already playing on the winners lane, it's about defending your place until the end.
  • The team that wins the winners lane stays on it, but is split up and gets to play with the challengers who won on the lane below and worked their way up.
  • The team that is the winner on the winners lane when the last round is played is also the winner of the tournament.
  • A match can not end in a draw, Golden Point is usually used to decide a winner.
  • The number of rounds is decided before the game starts.

How do you score?

In Winners lane you score as you like. You could go for the standard 15, 30, 40 and game or receive a point for each won ball.

  • Each match is played for a certain number of points. Usually 16, 24 or 32. The matches can also be played for a predetermined time period of 10-20 minutes.
  • Each team serves 2 times. The serve is then passed to the opponent.
  • Each ball won gives one point to the winning team
  • When a match is over, the score is recorded and then transferred to the individual players. If a 24 point match ends 10-14, players 1 and 2 get 10 points each. Players 3 and 4 get 14 points each.

How to organize a Winners lane tournament?

To play Winners lane you need at least 8 participants. The amount of players needs to be evenly divisible by 4.

  • The number of padel courts needed for a Winners lane tournament depends on the number of participants. Usually 4 players per court.
  • It is required that the number of courts corresponds to the number of players.
  • It is good to mix players at different padel levels.
  • The normal playing time for a Winners lane tournament varies based on how many rounds you want to play, usually at least 1 hours.
