Mixed Americano Padel

Mixed Americano padel is the classic Americano with one rule change: every team is always one man and one woman. Also called Americano Mix or americano mixto, it's a social mixed-doubles format where partners rotate every round and the tournament ends once every man has partnered every woman at least once. You can adapt the man-woman rule to your group too, for example pairing a forehand with a backhand player.

What is Mixed Americano padel?

Mixed Americano (Americano Mix) is a rotating-partner padel format where every pair is one man and one woman, so your partner changes every single round.

  • It takes the easy, social, all-levels feel of Americano and adds a mixed-doubles twist: you always play alongside a partner of the opposite sex.
  • You compete individually but always in a man-woman pair, so your points stay yours no matter who you partner.
  • Pairs keep rotating until every man has played with every woman, which is exactly what makes Mixed Americano so social.
  • It's a favourite for couples nights, club socials and mixed leagues where everyone wants balanced, friendly games.

Mixed Americano padel rules

Mixed Americano keeps Americano's fixed, social rotation but pairs men with women every round. These are the rules of Mixed Americano padel:

  • You compete individually but always play in pairs of one man and one woman.
  • Partners rotate every round on a pre-set schedule, and the tournament normally ends once every man has partnered every woman.
  • Each match is played to a set number of points, usually 16, 24 or 32. Each team serves 2 to 4 times, then the serve passes to the opponents.
  • After all rounds are played, the player with the most accumulated points across the whole tournament wins.

How do you score in Mixed Americano padel?

Mixed Americano scoring is point-per-rally: instead of 15, 30, 40 and game, your man-woman pair earns one point for every rally you win, and both partners pocket the same points.

  • Each match is played to a set number of points, usually 16, 24 or 32, or for a fixed time of 10 to 20 minutes per round.
  • Each team serves twice, then the serve passes to the opponents.
  • Every rally won gives one point to the winning team, and both players in that pair receive it.
  • When a match ends, the score is credited to each player individually. So a 24-point match finishing 10-14 gives players 1 and 2 ten points each and players 3 and 4 fourteen points each, regardless of which man partnered which woman.

How to organize a Mixed Americano tournament?

To run a Mixed Americano you need at least 4 participants or teams. There is no upper limit, but a number evenly divisible by four works best so the man-woman rotation stays clean, and you should aim for an equal number of men and women.

  • The number of padel courts you need depends on how many players take part, so plan for 4 players per court.
  • Aim for an equal number of men and women so the rotation works out, with every man partnering every woman over the course of the event.
  • Match the number of courts to your player count: 4 players = 1 court, 8 players = 2 courts, and so on.
  • If you can't get equal men and women, split players into separate groups by what you do have, or switch to standard Americano or Mexicano so nobody sits out unevenly.
  • Mixing levels is fine, but if the gaps are too large, split your Mixed Americano into separate groups or choose the Mexicano format instead so matches stay even.
  • A typical Mixed Americano lasts about 2 hours, with a 24-point match taking roughly 10 minutes to play.
